EUGENE, Ore. -- Cal Poly senior Travis Martin placed fifth in the men’s hammer throw to highlight The Big West’s effort at the first day of the 2026 NCAA Track & Field Championships, Wednesday at Oregon’s Hayward Field.
 
Martin recorded a mark of 72.46m/237’9” in the fifth round to earn fifth place. By finishing in the top eight, Martin will earn All-America First Team status.
 
Cal Poly’s Chris Caudillo is moving on to the final round of the men’s 1500m on Friday, taking fifth in heat two, and overall, with a time of 3:36.30 to automatically qualify. Fellow Mustang Carson Smtih (3:41.52) placed 21st overall.
 
Cal State Fullerton’s Ian Dossman advanced to Saturday’s final in the men’s 200m, placing third in heat one, sixth overall with a time of 20.32. In the men’s 100m race, Dossman (10.32) was 22nd overall, while fellow Titan Abel Jordan (10.29) was 20th.
 
After five events, Long Beach State’s Ryan Gregory sits in 10th place with 4007 points in the decathlon. Gregory put up marks of 10.77 in the 100m (912 points), 7.20m/23’7.5” in the long jump (862 points), 12.33m/40’5.5” in the shot put (626 points), 1.95m/6’4.75” in the high jump (758 points) and 49.25 in the 400m (849 points). Cal State Fullerton’s Keith Orona is in 19th with 3819 points. Orona recorded 11.41 in the 100m (771 points), 6.62m/21’8.75” in the long jump (725 points), 14.45m/47’5” in the shot put (756 points), 2.01m/6’7” in the high jump (813 points) and 51.33 in the 400m (754 points).
 
Long Beach State’s Steven Evans-Glynn (7.34m/24’1”) placed 18th in the men’s long jump.
 
In the men’s pole vault competition, Cal Poly’s Ben Feyrer (5.35m17’6.5”) tied for 19th.
 
The Cal State Fullerton men’s 4x100m relay team of Isaiah Emerson, Jordan, Dossman and Dominic Gates finished 20th overall in 40.77. Long Beach State’s team did not finish the event.
 
UC Santa Barbara’s Finn Andrews (52.69) was 22nd in the 400m hurdles.
