FAYETTEVILLE -- The Big West had two national qualifiers on the fourth day of the 2026 NCAA Track & Field West Preliminaries, Saturday at Arkansas’ John McDonnell Field.
The fourth day of the West Preliminaries is treated as the quarterfinals of the national championships for women’s events, mirroring the men’s format from Friday. The competition is narrowed to 12 athletes in each event that qualify for the NCAA Track & Field Championships in approximately two weeks at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
The Big West had two qualifiers to the NCAA Championships.
CSUN’s
Summer Mosley is going to nationals in the discus throw, coming in fifth place with a toss of 56.52m/185’5”. Fellow Matador
Katherine Shipp-Davis (54.16m/177’8”) was one spot away from qualifying, placing 13th overall. UC Irvine’s
Nyla Baker (52.64m/172’8”),
Samaria Vital of Hawai‘i (50.74m/166’6”), Cal Poly’s
Isabella Rigby (48.47m/159’0”) and CSUN’s
Amani Britton took 17th, 29th, 38th and 43rd place, respectively, in the event.
UC Riverside’s
Chelsea Aninyei is going to Eugene in the triple jump, placing ninth overall with a mark of 13.48m/44’2.75”, a new Big West record.
Tara Wyllie of Hawai‘i (12.90m/42’4”), UC San Diego’s
Tamara Aimufia (12.86m/42’2.25”), UC Santa Barbara’s
Kennedy Johnson (12.85m/42’2”) and CSUN’s
Camryn Harris (12.39m/40’7.75”) finished 27th, 30th, 31st and 44th, respectively, in the event.
The UC Irvine 4x100m relay team of
Jazzmine Davis,
Hallena Sutherland,
Samantha Bartz and
Catalina Teran ran 44.88 for 16th place. Davis (13.41) also ran the 100m hurdles and placed 23rd overall in the race. Cal State Bakersfield’s 4x100m relay team of
Chizitere Okey Dike,
Rionna Wallace,
Teague Marzetta and
Makiah Parker ran a seasonal-best 45.12 for 18th. Parker competed in the 100m as well, running a personal-best time of 11.21 to come in 17th place overall.
UC Irvine’s
Kaia Schmidt (10:41.17) and UC San Diego’s
Emma Dunmire (11:21.43) were 29th and 47th overall, respectively in the 3000m steeplechase.
In the high jump, UC Irvine’s
Zharia Taylor and
Lilian Turban of Hawai‘i both cleared 1.71m/5’7.25” as part of a four-way tie for 37th. Cal Poly’s
Grace Proudfoot also went over the height but placed 41st due to number of attempts.
UC San Diego’s
Sylvana Northrop (16:51.61) took 44th in the 5000m.
