FAYETTEVILLE -- The Big West had two student-athletes punch tickets to the national meet in Eugene on the second day of the 2026 NCAA West Preliminaries, Thursday at Arkansas’ John McDonnell Field.
The second day of the West Preliminaries is treated as the first round of the national meet for women’s events. The men’s pole vault was also contested on Thursday after being rescheduled from Wednesday due to weather. For the women's track events, the competition was narrowed down to 24 athletes that qualify for Saturday’s regional final (national quarterfinal). For the field events, the top 12 earn trips to the national meet in two weeks in Eugene, Ore.
The Big West had two qualifiers to the NCAA Championships, and two athletes advance out of the first round.
In the men’s pole vault that was rescheduled from Wednesday, Cal Poly’s
Ben Feyrer earned a trip to Eugene in the event. The sophomore was one of five vaulters to clear 5.47m/17’11.25”, where the competition stopped due to reaching the qualifiers needed for nationals. Long Beach State’s
VJ Vanderlipe did not record a mark in the event.

Lexi Evans made it to the national field as well after being one of 10 athletes to clear a height of 4.43m/14’6.25”, a personal-, school- and conference-record. Fellow Mustang
Astrid Teran (4.08m/13’4.5”) was tied for 31st in the competition.
In the women’s 100m hurdles, UC Irvine’s
Jazzmine Davis (13.41) placed third in heat three, 22nd overall, to advance to Saturday’s national quarterfinal automatically. Cal State Fullerton’s
Jahzara Davis (13.56) placed 36th overall.
In the women’s 100m, Cal State Bakersfield’s
Makiah Parker (11.40) made it to Saturday’s national quarterfinal based on time, coming in 19th place overall. Long Beach State’s
Trinity Barnett (11.53) and UC Irvine’s
Samantha Bartz (11.59) were 28th and 36th, respectively in the sprint. Parker (23.74), Barnett (23.77), UC Irvine’s
Hallena Sutherland (23.78) and UC Riverside’s
Raykiya Olukoju (24.20) took 32nd, 35th, 36th and 45th overall, respectively, in the 200m.
UC San Diego’s
Feyi Olukanni (16.03m/52’7.25”) was four spots shy of qualifying for nationals in the women’s shot put, coming in 16th place. UC Irvine’s
Nyla Baker (14.65m/48’0.75”) was 39th in the event.
In the women’s 800m, Cal State Fullerton’s
Natalyn Membrano (2:05.54) and UC San Diego’s
Allyson Abandonato (2:13.04) placed 27th and 48th overall, respectively.
In the women’s long jump, UC Davis’
Kylee Davis (6.11m/20’0.5”), UC Riverside’s
Chelsea Aninyei (5.98m/19’7.5”), UC Irvine’s
Kailah Mckenzie (5.50m/18’0.5”) took 29th, 36th and 48th place overall, respectively.

Alyssa Heinlein (1:01.82) placed 42nd and 46th overall in the women’s 400m hurdles.
