Two Tickets to Eugene Claimed on First Day of NCAA Track & Field West Regionals

FAYETTEVILLE -- The Big West had two student-athletes punch tickets to Eugene on the first day of the 2026 NCAA West Preliminaries, Wednesday at Arkansas’ John McDonnell Field.
 
The first day of the West Preliminaries is treated as the first round of the national meet for men’s events. Women’s events will be run on Thursday with the same format. For the track events, the competition was narrowed down to 24 athletes that qualify for Friday’s regional final (national quarterfinal). For the field events, the top 12 earn trips to the national meet in two weeks in Eugene, Ore.
 
The Big West had two qualifiers to the NCAA Championships, and 10 athletes advance out of the first round.
 
Cal Poly senior Travis Martin earned a trip to the national meet for the second year in a row in the men’s hammer throw. Martin was seventh with a toss of 68.04m/223’3” after two attempts that were foul. Cal State Bakersfield’s Javier Toro (63.38m/207’11”), CSUN’s Tylor Connelly (63.20m/207’4”), Long Beach State’s Eman Goodloe (61.53m/201’10”) and Long Beach State’s Tyler Knowles (58.81m/192’11”) were 17th, 18th, 28th and 38th, respectively.
 
Long Beach State’s Steven Evans-Glynn is going to Eugene, coming in 10th with a leap of 7.74m/25’4.75”. UC Riverside’s Aaron Fruge (7.47m/24’6.25”), UC San Diego’s Jaden Rucker (7.13m/23’4.75”) and UC Riverside’s Kazu Kimura (6.71m/22’0.25”) placed 20th, 36th and 40th, respectively.
 
The Cal Poly trio of Chris Caudillo (3:40.15), Aidan McCarthy (3:41.61) and Carson Smith (3:43.67) finished 10th, 20th and 27th overall, respectively, and advanced to Friday’s regional final based on having the four fastest non-automatic qualifying times.  
 
Cal State Fullerton’s Abel Jordan (10.19), CSUN’s James Crawford (10.25) and Cal State Fullerton’s Ian Dossman are through to Friday’s regional final field in the 100m coming in 10th, 18th and 23rd overall, respectively. Jordan and Crawford were automatic qualifiers out of their heat, while Dossman got in based on time. Long Beach State’s Trey Sheron (10.33) and Tristyn Flores (10.33), and Cal State Fullerton’s Dominic Gates (10.40) placed 28th, 29th and 36th overall, respectively.
 
Dossman (20.54) won heat six, fourth overall, of the 200m to qualify for the regional final on Friday. UC Irvine’s Justin Johnson (20.92), UC Santa Barbara’s Matthew Staples (21.24) and Cal State Fullerton’s Rider Cooper (21.33) were 26th, 40th and 42nd overall, respectively.
 
In the 400m hurdles, UC Santa Barbara’s Finn Andrews (50.55) and Mac Lamkin (50.67), and Long Beach State’s Jaden Dasher (51.00) took 12th, 15th and 23rd overall, respectively, to qualify for the regional final race on Friday. Cal Poly’s Vincent Atilano was 33rd at 51.46.
 
Cal Poly’s Conrad Bernstein narrowly missed out on a national berth in the javelin with a 14th place finish (67.59m/221’9”), two spots shy of a trip to Eugene. UC San Diego’s Kyle Wood (62.11m/203’9”), UC Irvine’s Darrin Campbell (61.75m/202’7”), Long Beach State’s Matthew Bender (60.79m/199’5”), Cal Poly’s Colby Neron (57.62m/189’0”) and Lucas Scott (54.31m/178’2”) finished 28th, 29th, 33rd, 42nd and 48th, respectively.
 
Cal State Fullerton’s Luke Hitchcock ran 1:48.29 in the 800m for a 22nd-place effort.
 
UC Irvine’s Logan Lyght was 27th in the 110m hurdles at 13.92.
 
Long Beach State’s Jaylon Wells (17.88m/58’8”), Cal Poly’s Aiden Pastorian (17.76m/58’3.25”), UC San Diego’s Zach Lewis (17.46m/57’3.5”) and UC San Diego’s Caesar Salazar (17.41m/57’1.5”) took 28th, 30th, 33rd and 35th, respectively, in the shot put.
 
CSUN’s Water Pierce (46.84) placed 39th in the 400m.
