Cal Poly Men Three-Peat, UC Irvine Women Repeat as Big West Track & Field Champions

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The Cal Poly men and UC Irvine women won the team titles at the 2026 Big West Track & Field Championships, Saturday at Jack Rose Track on the campus of Long Beach State. The Mustang men won their third straight team title, while the Anteater women successfully defended their conference crown.
 
Men’s Recap
The Cal Poly men captured the team title with 201.5 points. Cal State Fullerton was second with 152 points and Long Beach State was third with 114.
 
Cal Poly dominated the distance events. The Mustangs swept the podium in the 1500m with Carson Smith (3:44.38), Aidan McCarthy (3:45.38) and Chris Caudillo (3:45.53). McCarthy (1:50.76) and Smith (1:51.14) came back to take the top two spots in the men’s 800m, with Cal State Fullerton’s Luke Hitchcock finishing third (1:51.55). With the victory in the two-lap race, McCarthy became the first four-time winner in the event in conference history. The Mustangs put their stamp on the meet going 1-2-3-4-6-7-8 in the men’s 5000m picking up 35 points with Tyler Daillak (14:14.74), Dheeraj Gurusamy (14:15.21) and Chris Caudillo (14:15.70) on the podium.
 
Cal Poly also got a couple of podium spots in two field events. The Mustangs’ Conrad Bernstein won the javelin with a mark of 69.17m, followed by Long Beach State’s Matthew Bender (64.38m) and UC San Diego’s Kyle Wood (62.73m).  Cal Poly’s Ben Feyrer won the pole vault with a clearance of 5.34m, with Long Beach State’s VJ Vanderlipe in second (5.24m) and Mustang Caleb King (4.99m) in third.
  
Cal State Fullerton got most of its points in the sprints. The Titan’s Ian Dossman was a double winner in the 100m (meet-record 10.02) and 200m (20.20). In the 100m, Cal State Fullerton’s Abel Jordan (10.08) and Long Beach State’s Tristyn Flores tied for second at 10.08. In the 200m, UC Irvine’s Justin Johnson (20.53) took silver and Cal State Fullerton’s Dominic Gates (20.68) earned bronze. Jordan won the 110m hurdles race with a 13.67 performance, followed by UC Santa Barbara’s Pryce Edwards (13.87) and UC Irvine’s AJ Taylor (13.97). Cal State Fullerton won the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:09.66 with UC San Diego (3:10.53) in second and Long Beach State (3:10.84) in third.

Long Beach State set a new meet record in the 4x100m relay with a time of 39.33, followed by UC Irvine (40.09) and UC Santa Barbara (40.29).
 
In the men’s 400m hurdles, UC Santa Barbara’s Finn Andrews won the 400m hurdles for the second year in a row at 49.88, followed by Long Beach State’s Jaden Dasher (50.56) and Cal Poly’s Vincent Atilano (50.67).
 
The triple jump was won by UC Irvine’s Kennechukwu Okonkwo (15.62m) with Cal State Fullerton’s Camren Smith (15.60m) in second and UC Riverside’s Andrew Robinson (15.54m) in third.

CSUN’s Kyriaun Davis (58.41m) took gold in the discus with UC San Diego’s Zachary Lewis (56.65m) claiming silver and UC Irvine’s Joseph Duggan (56.46m) taking bronze.
  
Women’s Recap
The UC Irvine women won the team title with 187.5 points 21.5 points ahead of second-place Cal State Fullerton (126) and third-place Cal Poly (105).
 
The Anteater women had a podium finisher in every track event on Saturday, aside from the 800m and 5000m, as well as the javelin and discus. UC Irvine's Hallena Sutherland won the 200m in 23.24, followed by Cal State Bakersfield's Makiah Parker (23.26) and Long Beach State's Trinity Barnett (23.40). Parker (11.38) was the 100m champion, followed by Barnett (11.42) and Anteater Samanta Bartz (11.43). 
 
The Anteaters won the 4x100m relay (44.78), followed by Cal State Bakersfield (45.25) and CSUN (45.34). The Anteaters’ Emma Hadley (4:30.80) won the 1500m, holding off UC San Diego’s Sylvana Northrop (4:30.99) and Cal State Fullerton’s Isabella Smith (4:35.72). Northrop came back later and took gold in the 5000m with a time of 16:13.96 with Cal Poly’s Kelli Gaffney (16:15.11) and Nicole Bridges (16:40.32) claiming silver and bronze, respectively. 
 
Cal State Fullerton went first and third in the women’s 100m hurdles, 400m, 800m and 400m hurdles. In the 100m hurdles, Cal State Fullerton’s Jazhara Davis (13.12) took gold, followed by UC Irvine’s Jazzmine Davis (13.31) and Cal State Fullerton’s Bella Turner (13.47). In the 400m, Cal State Fullerton’s Arionn Livingston (53.16) took the victory, with UC Irvine’s Aoife Hernon (53.61) in second and Cal State Fullerton’s Nancy Dematte (53.71) in third. In the 800m, Cal State Fullerton’s Natalyn Membeno (2:07.80) took gold, with UC San Diego’s Allyson Abandonato (2:08.16) with silver and Cal State Fullerton’s Ashlynn Viramontes (2:08.98) with bronze. In the 400m hurdles, Cal State Fullerton’s Alyssa Heinlein (58.24) was the first across the finish line, followed by UC Irvine’s Esmeray Demirbas (58.65) and Cal State Fullerton’s Bella Turner (59.20).
 
In the 4x400m relay Cal State Fullerton was first at 3:39.93, followed by UC San Diego in second (3:40.26) and UC Irvine in third (3:41.11).
 
Long Beach State’s Rori Denness-Lamont (51.94m) was victorious in the javelin, followed by UC Irvine’s Giselle Rodriguez (46.50m) and Cal Poly’s Camrenne Genilla (46.35m).
 
Cal Poly’s Lexi Evans won the pole vault competition with a new meet record of 4.37m. Long Beach State’s Jonelle Scott (4.07m) was the runner-up with Atianna Marquez (3.92m) of UC Davis as the second runner-up.
 
CSUN went 1-2 in the discus with Summer Mosley (59.60m) and Katherine Shipp-Davis (55.28m). UC Irvine’s Nyla Baker (55.01m) was third.
 
The triple jump was won by UC Riverside’s Chelsea Aninyei (13.04m), followed by UC San Diego’s Tamara Aimufia and CSUN’s Camryn Harris (12.86m).
