Cal Poly's Aidan McCarthy ran a lifetime best in the 1500m at the Bryan Clay Invitational to earn The Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week award. It is the Pleasanton, Calif. native's fourth career weekly honor in track & field, having won the award twice in 2023 and once in 2022. McCarthy ran a personal-best time of 3:36.49 over 1500m to place fourth overall in the elite heat at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Friday night. McCarthy's time is the best in the Big West by nearly five seconds, and ranks No. 3 in the West Region and No. 7 in Division I this season. Men's Field Athlete of the Week Trey Knight, CSUN | Senior • Ridgefield, Wash. CSUN's Trey Knight finished second in the hammer throw competition at the Mt. SAC Relays to claim The Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor. It is the senior's fourth career weekly honor, having won the award once earlier this season and twice last year. Knight finished second overall out of the 13-athlete elite section in the hammer throw with a mark of 74.35m/243'11". Women's Track Athlete of the Week Tatiana Cornejo, Cal Poly | Junior • Elk Grove, Calif. Cal Poly's Tatiana Cornejo won the eighth section of the 1500m at the Bryan Clay Invitational to claim The Big West Women's Track of the Week award. It is the junior's third career weekly honor, having won it once earlier this year and once last season. Cornejo won the eighth heat of the 1500m, eighth overall, with a time of 4:15.14. The time is No. 3 in school history, No. 1 in The Big West, No. 25 in the West Region and No. 50 in the nation. Women's Field Athlete of the Week Jenelle Hurley, Long Beach State | Senior • Grants Pass, Ore. Long Beach State's Jenelle Hurley competed in a myriad of events at the Pacific Coast Inviational and Beach Invitational to earn The Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Week award. It is senior's first career weekly honor. Hurley established a new lifetime best in the high jump with a mark of 7.72m/5'7.75", a seasonal best in the long jump (5.76m/18'10.75"), and a wind aided personal recird in the 200m (25.24) at the Pacific Coast Invitational. The Grants Pass, Ore. product then came close to recording a lifetime best in the 100m hurdles (14.58) at the Beach Invitational to round out a solid weekend.
