Karol Ostrowski of Hawai'i closed an impressive season at the 2025 NCAA DIvision I Men's Swimming & Diving Championships with a pair of sprints.
On Thursday, the senior clocked in a time of 19.16 in the preliminary round of the 50-yard freestyle at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, Wash. Then on Saturday as a late entrant into the field of the 100 free, Ostrowski touched the wall in 52.31 to set a new Hawai'i program record in the prelims.
Despite the strong swims, Ostrowski did not advance to the final in either event, as the Strachoin, Poland native finished 26th in the field of 66 contestants in the 50 free and 36th in the 100-yard distance. Ostrowski holds the distinction as the lone male swimmer to represent the Big West in the postseason in the revival year of sport sponsorship in the conference.
Ostrowski punched a ticket to the NCAA Championships after setting the site record in the 50 free at the SMU Invitational in the Roberson & Lindley Aquatics Center with a time of 18.99. The record-breaking performance earned him his first Big West Athlete of the Week honor on Nov. 26, 2024.
In February, Ostrowski came away from The Big West Championships in Houston with a handful of hardware. Ostrowski was the first leg of the record-setting 200 medley relay squad who closed in 1:23.64 to take gold. Ostrowski finished the leg in 21.00 on Feb. 12. The following day, he added a top finish in the 50 yard freestyle as well as a record-breaking victory in the 200 freestyle relay. As the opening leg in the relay, Ostrowski touched the wall in 19.14 which stands as a new benchmark in the 50 free.
On Championships Day 4, Ostrowski took home top hardware in the 100 yard freestyle, setting the event record with a mark of 42.50. The Rainbow Warrior swimmers with Ostrowski in the lead leg broke another record in the 400 freestyle relay at 2:52.26 to cap out the Championships. Ostrowski also reached the podium in the 800 freestyle relay (2nd), 100 backstroke (3rd) and 100 freestyle (3rd) to leave the CRWC Natatorium highly decorated and help the 'Bows to a second-place team finish.
