HOUSTON, Texas — UC Santa Barbara had an exceptional day on both sides by securing a total of seven gold medals to highlight Day 3 of The Big West Swimming & Diving Championships at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston.
The third set of final events commenced with the 100 Butterfly where Vili Sivec of Cal State Bakersfield and Makena Leacox of UC Santa Barbara both boasted the first pair of gold medals on the day with times of 45.61 and 52.80, respectively. Sivec secured a new Big West record with the junior's final mark.
From there, the 400 Individual Medley saw Kyle Brill of UC Santa Barbara earn another gold medal (2:42.95 | BW Record) and Asia Kozan of UC San Diego (4:13.83) at the top of the podium to cap off the event.
The 200 Freestyle featured a UCSB sweep that saw Austin Sparrow (1.34.42) take the top spot on the men's side as Samantha Banos (4:13.83) gathered gold for the women.
Cal Poly's Evan Yoo captured the 100 Breaststroke with a BW record time of 52.40 while took the event home on the women's side Chole Braun notched the Tritons second gold finish of the night (1:47.03).
Matt Driscoll collected another gold medal and BW record for the Gauchos (45.74) in the 100 Backstroke a teammate Hazel Derr directed another top finish for UCSB (54.02) to represent the women.
Macie Wheeler won the freshman's second gold medal of the Championships after capturing the 3 Meter Diving title with 367.30 points on evening.
Lastly, the 400 Medley Relay capped off with an intense event when UCSB's Matt Driscoll, Kyle Brill, Justin Wong and Austin Sparrow came out on top for the men and Hazel Derr, Ashley Ray, Makena Leacox, and Samantha Banos and wrapped day three of competition for the women as champions.
After three days in the pool, UC Santa Barbara now occupies first place with 545 points as Hawai'i trails behind with 520 points. UCSB simultaneously sits atop the women's side with 514.5 points ahead of UC San Diego who has posted 484.5 points thus far.
The fourth and final day of The 2025 Big West Swimming & Diving Championships will begin with preliminary competition starting at 10 a.m. CT/8 a.m. PT followed by the first championship final in the 1650 Free (fastest heat) beginning approximately at 6 p.m. CT/4 p.m. PT.
