HOUSTON, Texas — UC Santa Barbara swept both the men’s and women’s title on the fourth and final of The Big West Swimming & Diving Championships at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston.
It is 29th men’s team championship and 14th women’s crown. The Gauchos swept both sides back in 2009 as well.
In the women’s team competition, UCSB scored 773.5 points. UC San Diego (744.5) and Hawai’i (715) finished second and third. On the men’s side, UCSB (813) took first, Hawai’i (787) was second and Cal Poly (603) was third.
Championship Saturday commenced with Macie Wheeler and Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo of Hawai’i being crowned champions in the men’s and women’s Platform Diving Event after posting 227.70 and 376.90 points, respectively. This accounted for Wheeler’s third gold medal in the past four days.
Next up saw UC Santa Barbara’s Taber daCosta and UC San Diego’s Sophia Bell snagged scores of 15:03:07 (BW record) and 16.42.24 in the 1650 Freestyle.
Drew Hutson collected gold for Cal Poly by recording a new BW record 1:40.39 in the 200 Back event as Eva Boehkle of secured the top finish for UCSD and BW record of 1:56.94.
Competition continued with the 100 Free that was captured by Karol Ostrowski of UH with a time of 42.51 (BW record) while Asia Kozan clinched another record at 48.47. Kozan collected a third gold medal after the result while Ostrowski orchestrated the second individual gold of the meet.
The 200 Breast event ensued shortly after with a gold medal time of 1:53.64 recorded by Evan Yoo and a 2:11.37 clocked in by Haley Gregory of the Tritons.
From there, it was time for the 200 Butterfly when Cal State Bakersfield’s Vili Sivec boasted another first place finish in the Championships with a time of and new BW Record of 1:43.13. Samantha Banos of UCSB boasted the junior’s third gold medal of the week in the same event after turning in a time of 1:54.73.
Finally, the 400 Freestyle finished off the final day of our 2025 Big West Swimming & Diving Championships with a climatic finish and two more BW records on the men’s side from UH (Ostrowski, Brophy, Meyer, Richardson) with a 2:52.56 mark on the men’s side and 3:20.04 mark for the women (Tyminska, Nelson, Sakellaris, Kovaluk), to complete the sweep.
