ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

• Junior Joseph Anderson won the 110 hurdles, 400 hurdles and ran a leg on the 4x100 relay that finished first, leading Long Beach State to a team title at the Challenge Cup, to earn The Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week honor. 
 
• Anderson ran 13.95 in the 110 hurdles for first place. The time is currently first in the conference, 23rd regionally and 50th nationally. 

• The junior from Rancho Cucamonga also won the 400 hurdles, crossing the line in 53.93. He was a member of the 4x100 relay team that ran 40.83 for the win. 

• Long Beach State grduate student Charlie Vernoy won the discus and finished in the top three in the shot put and hammer throw to claim The Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week award. With Vernoy's help, the Beach won the Challenge Cup team title. It is Vernoy's second weekly honor from the conference this season.
 
• Vernoy won the discus throw with a mark of 55.89m/183'4" and took third in the shot put with a distance of 15.63m/51'3.5". 

• The Ventura product established a new personal best in the hammer throw with a distance of 61.84m/202'11". The mark is third in The Big West and 30th in the West Region. 

• Vernoy also competed at the Triton Invitational in the hammer throw the following day after the Challenge Cup.

• Long Beach State graduate student LeNaya Griffin won the 200 and 400 at the Challenge Cup to earn The Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor. Griffin also ran legs on the 4x100 relay that finished first and 4x400 relay that took second. Long Beach State won the Challenge Cup team title. It is the second time this season that Griffin has won the conference's weekly honor. 

• The San Jose product ran a personal-best 24.06 in the 200 for the win. The mark is second in the conference and 20th in the west region. Griffin also won the 400 with a time of 53.74, currently the second best time in the conference. 

• Griffin also ran legs on the 4x100 relay (46.02) that took first and 4x400 relay (3:50.41) that finished runners-up. 

• UC Davis senior Marlene Gutierrez had a pair of top-five performances in the shot put and hammer throw at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational to claim The Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor. 
 
• The Lindsay, Calif. native was fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 57.17m/187'7". The throw is good for second in the conference and third all-time in Aggie program history. 

• Gutierrez finished third in the shot put with a mark of 14.24m/46'8.75". The distance is currently the second best in The Big West.

FINAL RESULTS

For the third time in four years – and the final time in the 33-year head coaching career of John Elders – Cal State Fullerton captured the Big West Men’s Track and Field Championship.
 
The Titans won in dramatic fashion with a final total of 163 points. Trailing Cal Poly by one point entering the 4x400 relay, CSF turned in a season-best time of 3:11.93 for 10 points and the winning tally. Paris Samaniego, Rasaun House, Justin Lowe and Charles Kelly provided the finishing touches for Elders, who will retire after the season. Kelly took the baton in third place on the anchor leg and got to the line first.

FINAL RESULTS

Cal Poly captured its first Big West Women’s Track and Field Championship, scoring a total of 181.5 points over three days at UC Irvine’s Anteater Stadium. The winning score is the highest at the championship since 2015.
 
The Mustangs won six of 21 events overall, including three on Saturday. Molly Ross earned a share of the 100-meter hurdles title with CSUN’s Brisa Guzman-Sanchez as both crossed the line in 13.75 seconds. Anisa Rind took home gold in the 400 meters with a time of 56.36 seconds. The Mustangs picked up 26 important points in the event, controlling the top three spots as well as seventh place. Cal Poly also closed the meet with the program’s first title in the 4x400 relay as the quartet of Ross, Cassidy Hubert, Julianna Ruotolo and Rind finished in 3:48.48.
