
The 16th-ranked UC Davis Aggies are headed to the NCAA Championship after blasting a 1-over 289 in the final round of the NCAA Central Regional at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla., placing them sixth with a total of 880. The top eight teams advanced to the championship, including top finisher Duke, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Florida, Arizona State, Wisconsin and MIchigan State.
Freshman Betty Chen carded 3-under 69 on Saturday for a team-best three-day total of 217, tying her for 11th. Three-time Big West Women's Golf Player of the Year Demi Runas shot even-par 72 for a three-round score of 218, good enough for 16th. Andrea Wong shot a score of 222 to sit tied for 35th while Beverly Vatananugulkit tied for 42nd with 223. Rounding out the five-player team with a total of 235 was senior Amy Simanton.
The Aggies resume action at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga. UC Davis, four-time defending Big West Champions, qualified for the NCAA Finals in 2008 and 2010. The Aggies finished 20th two years ago for their best showing.
UC Irvine's Luciane Lee and Michelle Park, competing as individuals, concluded their trip to the NCAA West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., finishing tied for 22nd and tied for 65th. Lee shot 2-over 74 in the final round for a three-day total of 219 while Park shot her best round on Saturday, a 2-under 70, to finish with 227.
