2013 Big West Women's Golf Postseason Honors

UC Davis’ momentum carries through to the postseason as the Aggies collect all three Big West awards, one of which they share with UC Irvine.  Demi Runas was named 2013 Big West Women’s Golf Player of the Year, teammate Andrea Wong nabbed 2013 Big West Women’s Golf Freshman of the Year honors and Anna Temple shares 2013 Big West Women’s Golf Co-Coach of the Year with UC Irvine Head Coach Julie Brooks.

altRunas collected her third straight Big West Women’s Golf Player of the Year accolade after pacing the conference with a 72.4 stroke average and winning individual medalist honors at the 2013 Big West Women’s Golf Championship, which handed the Aggies their fourth consecutive Big West title.  The senior from Torrance, Calif., dominated throughout the 2012-13 season, recording seven top-5 finishes.  Back in September, Runas claimed medalist honors for the third time in her career after carding 7-under-par 209 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.  Runas, who is currently ranked 19th in the Golfweek ratings, nabbed three Big West Golfer of the Month honors this season and will be making her fourth NCAA appearance next week at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course in Norman, Okla.

Wong, is the second straight Aggie, and fourth overall, to be named Big West Women’s Golf Freshman of the Year.   The freshman from San Francisco, Calif., proved herself right from the start, tying for ninth-place in September’s Golfweek Challenge.  Throughout the course of the year, Wong recorded three Top-15 finishes, including an impressive second-place finish at the 2013 Big West Women’s Golf Championship.   She will carry the conference’s  third-lowest stroke average (74.4) into next week’s NCAA Central Regional.  Wong was also named to the All-Big West First Team.

In her first season at the helm of the UC Davis women’s golf program, Temple guided the Aggies to their fourth-consecutive Big West Women’s Golf Championship with a team score of 881 (289-304-288), a 29-stroke lead over second place Long Beach State.  This is the fourth straight year UC Davis has earned coach of the year honors with former head coach Anne Walker collecting three from 2010-12.  The Aggies produced seven Top-5 finishes, including back-to-back second place finishes to kick off the year.  The 2012-13 season continues for the Aggies next week with their fifth appearance in six year at the NCAA Regional.

Brooks received her third coach of the year recognition following an impressive 2012-13 season in which the Anteaters never finished lower than sixth during the year, which included three Top-3 finishes.  At the Big West Women’s Golf Championship, the Anteaters finished third with a three-round score of 922.  Following the conclusion of the Big West Championship, Anteaters Luciane Lee and Michelle Park, both All-Big West First Team recipients, received at-large berths into the NCAA Regionals.  The UC Irvine duo are set to compete at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., as part of the West Regional.

Shimmers of blue and gold can be seen on the All-Big West First Team as four Aggies and two UC Irvine Anteaters made the cut.  Joining Runas and Wong were teammates Amy Simanton and Beverly Vatananugulkit, while Lee and Park represented UC Irvine.  The complete teams are listed below:
