Big West Conference Commissioner Dennis Farrell today announced that the La Quinta Resort will play host to the 2012 Big West Men’s Golf Championship. The championship will begin on Sunday, April 29 and conclude on Tuesday, May 1. The Pete Dye designed Mountain Course is located right in the heart of the La Quinta Resort and is the former home of the PGA Senior Skins Game.
It will be the first time the La Quinta Resort will host the Big West event. La Quinta Resort and PGA West is currently hosting another collegiate event, The Prestige at PGA West, during the second week of October.
The tournament will feature all nine Big West men’s golf teams which will play 18 holes each day of the tournament. The champion will advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Current PGA Tour players Brendan Steele (UC Riverside) and John Mallinger (Long Beach State) have recently competed in the Big West Conference Championship.
The desert is no stranger to hosting Big West championship events. Indian Wells Tennis Garden has been home to the Big West Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship since 2004 and will host the 2012 edition April 26-29.
