Zeman added two more in the closing nine to finish with a 2-under 70, to jump nearly three dozen places on the leaderboard with a two-day tally of 2-over 146.
The red numbers on Saturday came on holes 4, 6, 10, 15 and 18 on the 7,393-yard second-round layout. Playing the Par 5s at an average of 4.63 strokes per round thus far on the week, Zeman is tied for 20th in the field on the longer distance opportunities.
Arizona’s Filip Jakubcik jumped up to first on the individual leaderboard after pairing Friday’s 68 with a 66 on Saturday to take a two-stroke lead over the duo of William Jennings of Alabama and Malan Potgieter of Louisiana, both playing as individuals. Auburn bumped up a place to first in the team standings followed by the pair of Texas and Vanderbilt with defending champion Oklahoma State climbing up 16 places to finish the round knotted with UCLA in a tie for fourth.
Zeman is guaranteed one more round at La Costa, set to tee off at 2:02 p.m., again from the 10th tee with Kentucky’s Jacob Lang and Jorge Martin Sampedro of UTRGV. After Sunday’s round, the field is trimmed to the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team for a final round of stroke play on Monday to crown an individual champion.
