Long Beach State Duo Tapped for PING All-West Region Honors

GCAA Release All-Time Big West All-Region Selections

The pair of Alejandro de Castro Piera and Steen Zeman from Big West champion Long Beach State have earned selection to the NCAA Division I PING All-West Region Team, as announced by the GCAA.

This marks just the sixth time a pair of Big West golfers have earned All-Region honors and the second occasion in which the duo has come from the same team, joining LBSU's duo of de Castro Piera and Charlie Forster in 2025.

The two upperclassmen from the Beach paced the team to a fourth consecutive Big West crown and a seventh-place showing in NCAA regional competition. Zeman, a graduate student from Oxnard, Calif., is still competing in the national postseason. After advancing to the NCAA Championships finals with a fifth-place individual finish in the Columbus regional, Zeman sits in 100th through 18 holes from Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

Zeman has been magnificent in May with individual medalist honors at The Big West Championship after putting together a three-day total of 11-under 205 at La Quinta to open the month and hoist the trophy. Highlighted by a second-round 68 in regional play, Zeman closed just two strokes back from the leader to become The Big West’s first individual national qualifier since 2019.

For the season, Zeman finished in the Top 10 in six events with three straight showings in the top six and an adjusted scoring average of 70.2 strokes per round in 2025-26 heading into the NCAA Championships.

Ranked as high as No. 26 in the Clippd listings this season, Big West Golfer of the Year Alejandro de Castro Piera also earned regional distinction. The senior from Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Spain, finished the season with a 69.1 strokes per round adjusted average, nine top 10 finishes, five top three results and a victory at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate in March.

De Castro Piera took fourth at The Big West Championship as the Long Beach State lineup finished in positions one through five en route to the team title, capping a string of seven consecutive top 10 finishes that spanned the entirety of the spring and stretched back to October.
