Two Big West women's golf programs were in competiton Thursday as the first round of the NCAA West Regional tournament was held. UC Davis and UC Irvine were among the 24 teams in action at Stanford Golf Course above the campus of Stanford University.

The 17th-seeded Anteaters completed the first round in a tie for 11th place with an 18-over 302. Henna Cho was the top scorer for UCI after shooting 70 (-1), placing her in a tie for third and just three shots behind the lead. The other UCI players at the West Regional were Lalita Patipaksiri (+3, 74), Hillary Packard (+8, 79), Michelle Park (+8, 79) and Mariko Makabe (+10, 81).

The Aggies, who are the #11 seed, finished up day one in a tie for 16th with a 24-over 308. UCD's top effort came from Chelsea Stelzmiller who shot 74 to finish at +3 and in a tie for 26th. UC Davis also had Alice Kim (+4, 75), Demi Runas (+8, 79), Amy Simanton (+9, 80) and Kim Johnson (+10, 81).

Round two tee times begin at 8:00 am tomorrow with the UC Irvine competitors among the first five groups out. UC Davis' tee times will begin at 12:20 pm.
