UC Davis Finishes In 21st Place At NCAA Championships

UC Davis concluded the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships with a 21st place finish as the Aggies shot a 302 in the final round at the 6,424-yard University of New Mexico Championship Course Friday.  The Aggies were one of 24 teams competing in the tournament.

Participating in the NCAA Finals in just its first year of Division I eligibility, UC Davis posted a 72-hole total of 1,234 and finished ahead of South Carolina, Arizona and Furman.  The Aggies were six shots behind Oklahoma State and Tulsa, which tied for 19th place.

Southern California won the team title, shooting a 16-over par 1,168 to edge UCLA by six strokes.  Duke came in third with a score of 1,180.  Arizona State's Azahara Munoz won a playoff against UCLA's Tiffany Joh to take home the individual championship.  Both golfers carded 1-under 287s over the 72 holes to force the playoff.

The top Aggie performer was freshman Alice Kim, who finished tied for 34th with a 12-over 300.  She posted rounds of 73, 74, 79 and 74.  Fellow freshman Chelsea Stelzmiller had the team's best final round of 73 on Friday.  She concluded the tournament in 75th with a total score of 20-over 308 (72-83-80-73).

Junior Bryana Gregory tied for 89th with a 312 (78-79-76-79) and senior Sydney Roughton's final round was her best of the tournament as she shot a 76.  Roughton finished in a tie for 100th with a 316.  Freshman Katie Sisler withdrew from the championship prior to the start of the third round due to medical reasons.
