Pacific Men, Cal Poly Women Host November Tournaments: The University of Pacific is set to host its lone tournament of the 2008-09 year Nov. 3-5.  The three-day Pacific Invitational takes place at the Brookside Country Club. Big West schools joining the Tigers are Cal State Northridge, UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara.

The Cal Poly women’s golf team will host the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational on Nov. 3-4 at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande. Big West foe, UC Riverside returns to defend its team title and will be joined by 16 other teams in the field.  In addition to Cal Poly and UC Riverside, other California schools scheduled to compete include Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Northridge, Sacramento State, Santa Clara and San Jose State.  The rest of the field includes Idaho State, Utah Valley State, Bradley, Northern Arizona, Weber State, Xavier (Ohio), Portland, Gonzaga, Boise State and Southern Utah.

Jane Chin Makes Her Mark In UC Irvine History:  Senior Jane Chin rewrote the UC Irvine women’s golf record book on her way to winning the 10th Annual Kent Youel Invitational at the Kapolei Golf Course Oct. 27-29.  Chin shot a final round 69 to capture medalist honors with a tournament record 203 (68-66-69), nine shots ahead of San Francisco’s Christina Stockton. It is Chin’s third consecutive tournament title, becoming the first UCI player to win three straight individual events. Chin’s 54-hole total of 203 is a school record as was the 36-hole score of 134.

Long Beach State's Kay Hoey, UC Davis' Austin Graham Highlighted On Golfweek.com:  Following a stellar start to her final season with the 49ers, Kay Hoey was highlighted on golfweek.com earlier this month.  The All-American, who redshirted last season, won her first event of the 2008-09 season (University of Colorado Heather Farr Memorial Invitational) and continued with strong performances in a handful of other tournaments.

Austin Graham, who is ranked 49th in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, had an amazing outing at The Prestige at PGA West which was featured in a Golfweek article.  The Aggie sophomore blitzed the Greg Norman Course with a school-record 9-under 63 on Monday afternoon after shooting 86 in the morning.  In the second round he birdied four of his first six holes of the afternoon, including three straight, and then finished with four birdies over his final five including one at his final hole, the par-5, 617-yard eighth.

Nate Pistacchio Co-Medalist At The Prestige At PGA West: Senior Nate Pistacchio claimed UC Davis' third medalist honor in five tournaments this fall when he tied for first with a 6-under 210 at The Prestige at PGA WEST at the Greg Norman Golf Course, leading the Aggie men’s golf team to an impressive runner-up finish at the high-powered tournament.  This was the senior’s first career collegiate win.

Cal Poly Men Win Home Tournament: Led by individual champion Jarod Knight, the Cal Poly men's golf team won the inaugural Coast BMW-Coast Nissan Collegiate Golf Championship, by 45 strokes, at the Monarch Dunes Golf Club in Nipomo.  The women finished second in their home event, while Big West foe UC Irvine claimed the top spot in the six-team tournament.

Matadors Win First-Ever Bill Cullum Invitational Title: For the first time in the 13-year history of the Cal State Northridge Bill Cullum Invitational, the Matadors came away with the team title as they carded team rounds of 276-284-293 to hold off Loyola Marymount and Long Beach State at Wood Ranch Golf Course.  Northridge, which held a five-shot lead after one round and a six-shot lead after the second round on Monday, carded a final round 293 to hold off a charging Loyola Marymount team which fired the low team round (286) on Tuesday. The Matadors finished at 853, the Lions were two shots back at 855 and Long Beach State was four back at 857.

UC Davis Men Ranked 24th, UC Irvine Women’s Team Inching Towards Top 25:  With one tournament title and three second place finishes in the first five tournaments of the season, the UC Davis men's team has found its way into the Top 25 of the Gollfweek/Sagarin Rankings.

After winning the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Intercollegiate and a second place finish at the Kent Youel Invitational, the UC Irvine women’s golf team is making waves in the collegiate rankings.  Prior to the Kent Youel Invitational, the Anteaters were ranked 26th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Ratings. They are sure to make a strong showing in the weeks to come with their second place finish earlier this week.
