Cal Poly, Long Beach State Host First Tournaments Of The New Season: Cal Poly welcomes eight men's golf teams and six women's squads for the inaugural Coast BMW-Coast Nissan Intercollegiate on October 6-7 at the Monarch Dunes Golf Course in Nipomo. Men’s teams from UCLA, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State San Marcos, Cal Baptist, San Diego State, Cal State Stanislaus, Pepperdine and Cal Poly will be joined by women’s teams from Cal State Northridge, UC Irvine, Santa Clara, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal Baptist and Cal Poly. Monarch Dunes measures 6,724 yards for men and 5,996 from the women's tees with a par 71.

The Long Beach State men's program hosts the annual Del Walker Intercollegiate October 16-17 at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif. The 14-team field includes Big West foes Cal State Northridge, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and Pacific, along with Arizona, Colorado State, Houston, Loyola Marymount, North Texas, San Jose State, UT-San Antonio and Weber State.

UC Davis Opens Fall Season With Invitational Title And Medalist Honors: Sophomore Austin Graham won medalist honors at the Kansas Invitational while the UC Davis men's golf team - buoyed by three players in the top five - posted the only below-par score of the day to post an eight-shot victory at the 16-team event. The Aggies were tied with TCU for second after Monday's 36 holes, one shot behind South Dakota State. In their second tournament of the fall season, the Aggies placed second in the 16-team field while Rami Sprinkling earned medalist honors with a three-round score of 206. This marks the second straight tournament UC Davis has claimed the individual top spot.

Chin Highlighted in Golfweek as a "Diamond in the Rough": UC Irvine's John Chin was highlighted in a recent Golfweek article "Diamonds in the Rough" that showcased a handful of players from smaller conferences that should have an impact this season. The 2008 Big West Player of the Year, who concluded last season ranked No. 63 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, began the season with a ninth place finish in the Topy Cup in Japan. Hoey Collects Seventh Career Victory: Long Beach State All-American senior Kay Hoey claimed the medalist honors at the University of Colorado Heather Farr Memorial Invitational. Hoey shot a 1-under 71 in the final round at the Omni Interlocken Golf Course to beat out 2nd place Emily Childs of Notre Dame by three shots. This was Hoey’s first tournament victory since winning the Big West Conference Championship in 2007.

UC Irvine's Chin Sets School Record In Season Opening Tournament: Jane Chin led the Anteaters to a 4th place finish in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate to open the 2008-09 season. Chin’s second place score of 208 (69-67-72) is the best 54-total in UC Irvine women’s golf history.

Graham, Hoey Collect First Golfer Of The Month Accolades For 2008-09: UC Davis sophomore Austin Graham and Long Beach State senior Kay Hoey were tabbed Big West Men's and Women's Golfer of the Month for their stellar performances during the month of September. Graham won medalist honors at the Kansas Invitational by four strokes with a six-under-par 210. His first career tournament victory guided the Aggies to a first-place team finish. The following week at the Wolverine Intercollegiate, Graham carded his second Top 15 finish with a 2-under-par 211. His second round score of 67 was the team's lowest of the month. Graham, who was UC Davis' top finisher at two of the three events, shot 221 at the Husky Invitational, tying him for 14th. Hoey began her final season with Long Beach State registering two top 10 finishes. At the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, Hoey fired 214 (71-69-74) to place seventh among 95 golfers. Three weeks later, the All-American claimed medalist honors at the University of Colorado Heather Farr Memorial Invitational. Her opening round of 65 tied her personal best as she recorded the same score in spring of 2007 at the Peg Barnard Collegiate in Palo Alto. This was Hoey’s first tournament victory since winning the Big West Conference Championship in 2007.
