RESULTS The UC Irvine women's golf team shot a 15-over 303 to tie for seventh place after the first 18 holes of the 2007 NCAA Championships at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Tuesday. The individual first round leader is UCI junior Selanee' Henderson, who carded a 3-under 69 on the 6,351-yard, par-72 course.
UCI is tied with UCLA, Georgia, Vanderbilt and Purdue for seventh place. USC leads the 24-team field after shooting a 7-over 295 during first round action. North Carolina and Louisville are tied for second at 9-over 297.
Henderson, a three-time All-Big West First Team selection, birdied five of the last six holes on the front nine and tallied six birdies total for the round. She holds a one stroke lead on Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and Stanford's Lauren Todd.
UCI freshman Patty Chawalitmetha shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 39th place. Fellow freshman Henna Cho and junior Kim Lorenzana carded 79s to tie for 83rd place. Junior Jane Chin had an 83 (t-114) to round out the list of Anteater competitors.
Long Beach State junior Kay Hoey, participating as an individual, shot a 7-over 79. She is tied with 11 other golfers for 83rd.
The 72-hole championship continues on Wednesday. UC Irvine will tee off on the 10th hole between 9:20 - 10:00 a.m. (PT).
