No. 2 Seed UC Irvine Advances to Fifth Consecutive Men's Tennis Championship Final


SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- No. 2 seed UC Irvine defeated No. 3 seed Cal Poly 4-1 in a semifinals matchup in the 2026 Big West Men's Tennis Championship on Friday at Barnes Tennis Center. UC Irvine secured the doubles point with wins in the first two doubles matches, setting the tone for the day. In singles play, UC Irvine claimed victories in three of four finished matches, including a decisive win in the No. 6 singles slot, to seal the overall victory.

UC Irvine clinched the doubles point by winning two completed matches. Max Fardanesh and Rohan Sachdev (UC Irvine) defeated Jovan Lubbe and Leo Matthysen (Cal Poly) 7-5 in the first match, while Tal Goodman and Hiroki Sakagawa (UC Irvine) overcame Aaron Eliscu and Sean Kamyshev (Cal Poly) 6-4 in the second match. 

In singles play, Hiroki Sakagawa (UC Irvine) secured a win against Jovan Lubbe (Cal Poly) with scores of 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 in the No. 1 match. Tal Goodman (UC Irvine) triumphed over Luc Hoeijmans (Cal Poly) 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the third match, and Greg Gamal (UC Irvine) defeated Sean Ferguson (Cal Poly) 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the sixth match. Aaron Eliscu (Cal Poly) claimed victory against Max Fardanesh (UC Irvine) 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in the No. 2 match.
