Alejandro Castro de Piera Earns Season's Final Big West Golfer of the Month Award

  • 8042Closing the regular season tied for a runner-up finish, Long Beach State senior Alejandro de Castro Piera went back-to-back for Big West Golfer of the Month, taking home the award for April. 

  • The native of Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Spain, closed the 54-hole ASU Thunderbird Collegiate on April 10-11 in Phoenix, Ariz., at 11-under 202, tied with Arizona State’s Boston Bracken and three strokes shy of event winner Johnnie Clark of New Mexico. 

  • De Castro Piera played the Par 5’s at seven under for an average of 4.22 strokes per hole to tie for best in the field. The week was highlighted by a second-round 64. Starting from Hole 10, de Castro Piera opened with a 5-under effort in the first nine and an eagle on Hole 1 after making the turn. The Beach took third as a team in the event. 

  • It was de Castro Piera’s second runner-up finish this spring, where the senior finished no lower than 6th in a tournament in the 2026 calendar year with one victory, five top 5s and eight top 10s in 2025-26.
