Hawai'i Surges to the Lead after Day 2 of The Big West Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

HOUSTON, Texas — Hawai'i used a strong second day to race to the lead in the team standings after the second day of action at the 2026 Big West Women's Swimming & Diving Championship, finishing with a total of 271 points to get a 46-point lead on defending champion and Day 1 pacesetters UC Santa Barbara. 

UC San Diego's Asia Kozan finished the 500-yard freestyle in 4:45.65, setting a new Championships record, while UC Santa Barbara's Samantha Banos followed closely with a time of 4:46.88. UCSD's Sophia Bell finished third with a time of 4:49.30.

During the women’s 200-yard individual medley, Eva Boehlke of UC San Diego captured first with a record-setting time of 1:57.43. The time punched the junior's ticket to the 2026 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. Zofia Tyminska of Hawai'i was runner-up, clocking in at 1:58.09, and UCSD's Chloe Braun placed third at 1:58.73. 

Holly Nelson of Hawai'i raced down the pool in 22.28 in the 50 free to claim first and also claim a spot in the upcoming 2026 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. Teammate Quincy Key finished second with a time of 22.65, followed by Miranda Stevenson of UCSB, rounding out the podium in third at 22.73.

In the Women’s 1-meter diving, UH's Macie Wheeler repeated at the top of the table with 311.85, a new high in the six-dive era. Lovisa Gusstavson secured second place with a score of 301.55 and Ruby Pickron rounded out the top three at 279.10, all from Hawai'i. 

In the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay, the Hawai'i claimed victory with a record-breaking time of 1:29.39, narrowly defeating UC Santa Barbara, who touched the wall in 1:29.44. UC Davis secured third place with a time of 1:30.42. Hawaii's win contributed 40 points to the team tally in the final event of the evening. 

Day 3 in Houston begins at 10 a.m. CT/8 a.m. PT with the Championship session taking center stage starting at 6 p.m. CT/4 p.m. PT. Event champions will be earned in seven disciplines.
