The Big West Announces Cancer Prevention Slate

All 11 Big West women’s basketball programs have identified one game on their February slate to raise awareness and funds to support life-saving research on all cancers affecting women.

In conjunction with The Big West’s Tough Like Tammy fundraising initiative, a joint venture between Big West women’s basketball, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and Big West women’s basketball analyst Tammy Blackburn, teams look to secure a $50,000 grant to assist women in underserved communities in southern California. Currently the Tough Like Tammy program stands over 60% of the way towards reaching the goal.

These “Play for Kay” games as they are known will take place throughout the month of February, which is also National Breast Center Prevention Month.

Another way to support your favorite team and the cause simultaneously is by purchasing an official Tough Like Tammy t-shirt at BigWestShop.org. A portion of the proceeds from sales of these items will be donated to the campaign.

A check for all monies raised will be presented during halftime of the women’s championship game of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Big West Women’s Basketball Championship at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson, Nevada on March 14, 2026. In lieu of a parking fee, fans attending the basketball championships are encouraged to make a donation in any amount to Tough Like Tammy.
