Eugene, Ore. -- Cal Poly’s Aidan McCarthy placed fifth in the men’s 800m to highlight The Big West’s effort at the third day of the 2025 NCAA Track & Field Championships, Friday at Oregon’s Hayward Field.

McCarthy crossed the finish line in the half-mile race in 1:46.88, and by finishing in the top eight, picked up All-America First Team status. The redshirt junior is now a two-time All-American in the 800m, placing seventh in the 2023 iteration of the national meet and sitting out last year due to injury. McCarthy's fifth place is the best finish from a Big West competitor in the event since UC Irvine's Charles Jock won the national title in 2012.

After one day of the heptathlon competition, Long Beach State senior Claudine Raud-Gumiel sits in 21st place with 3309 points through four events.

Raud-Gumiel accumulated 1027 points (13.66, 8th) in the 100m hurdles, 552 points (1.69m, 12th) in the high jump, 552 points (10.35m, 23rd) in the shot put and 888 points (24.99, 18th) in the 200m. Day two of the heptathlon, tomorrow, will consist of the long jump (3:30 p.m.), javelin (4:45 p.m.) and 800m (7:43 p.m.).
