Big West champion Long Beach State is in 10th place at the NCAA Men’s Golf Urbana Regional after Tuesday’s second round at Atkins Golf Club. The Beach accumulated a second day team score of 11-over 295. Combined with Monday’s efforts (+1), LBSU has a two-day total of 12 over.
Charlie Forster, The Big West Golfer of the Year, delivered a 1-under 71 performance, compiling four birdies on the day. The LBSU senior is tied for ninth (-3) in the individual leaderboard. Jack Cantlay (+2), Alejandro De Castro (+4) and Clay Seeber (+6) were the other three countable team scorers for the Beach.
After 36 holes, Illinois currently leads the team competition at 10 under, followed by Oklahoma State (-7), UNLV (-7), Texas Tech (-2) and Troy (-1) to round out the top five. UNLV’s Caden Fioroni is the individual leader at seven under.
LBSU will start Round 3 from the 10th hole, beginning at 7:28 a.m. PT. The Beach are paired with golfers from Wright State and Houston as the field vies to stay in the top five to advance to the NCAA Championship. The highest-placed individual not on an advancing team will also receive a berth to the final site.
Over at the NCAA Reno Regional at Montreaux Golf & Country Club, Baron Szeto of Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton's Tegan Andrews finished their halted Round 1 from Monday and 14 holes of Round 2 before play was suspended due to darkness. Szeto played no bogey golf and tallied two birdies in Round 1 for a 2-under 70. The Mustang senior is five over through 14 holes in Round 2 for a total of three over. Andrews is also at a combined three over, going 4-over 76 in the first 18 and is one under with four holes left in Round 2. The Titan redshirt senior has two birdies in round two. Both Szeto and Andrews are tied for 22nd on the leaderboard.
Virginia's Paul Chang has the individual pole position at six under.
Round 2 will pick up on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. PT, with Round 3 starting right after.
The top five teams and the low individual not on a qualifying team from each regional will advance to compete at Carlsbad, Calif.’s Omni La Costa Resort & Spat in the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships from May 23-28.
