SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- No. 1 seed UC Santa Barbara (18-3) made quick work of No. 4 seed UC San Diego (7-14) 4-0 in the semifinals of the 2025 Big West Men's Tennis Championship, Saturday at the Barnes Tennis Center.
The Gauchos advance to the championship match against No. 2 seed UC Irvine on Sunday, April 28 at 10 a.m. PT. This is the fourth consecutive year the Anteaters and Gauchos will square off for the conference championship. UC Irvine won in 2022 and 2024, while UC Santa Barbara hoisted the trophy in 2023.
UC Santa Barbara got the doubles point without much resistance. Diogo Morais and Charlie Underwood (UCSB) took care of David Adamson and Joseph Teh (UCSD) 6-1 at court No. 3, and Gianluca Brunkow and Lucca Liu (UCSB) defeated Zach Pellouchoud and Pelayo Rodriguez (UCSD) 6-1 at the top.
Three straight set victories in singles sealed the victory for the Gauchos. Liu bested Diogo Tinoco 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. Morais topped Pellouchoud 6-3, 6-3 at court No. 4. At the top slot, Brunkow prevailed over Carson Lee 6-3, 6-4.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Coming down to the last singles match, No. 2 seed UC Irvine (17-5) overcame a 3-0 deficit to down No. 3 seed UC Davis (14-7) by a score of 4-3 in the semifinals of the 2025 Big West Men's Tennis Championship, Saturday at the Barnes Tennis Center.
The Anteaters advance to the championship match against top-seeded UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, April 28 at 10 a.m. PT. The Aggies took an early 1-0 lead by taking two doubles matches to UC Irvine’s one. Sam De Vries and Rithvik Katpelly (UCD) toppled Max Fardanesh and Rithvik Krishna (UCI) 6-2 at court No. 3. Andy Nguyen and Noah Zamora (UCI) took care of Ryan Torres and Ivan Savkin (UCD) 6-4 to even the doubles score at the top flight. Lucas Bollinger and Kaveh Taheri (UCD) sealed the point for UC Davis with a victory Sohrob Amiryavari and Ruining Huang (UCI) 6-4 at the No. 3 court.
The Aggies went up 3-0 in the team battle by taking two singles matches in straight sets. Katpelly prevailed over Huang 6-3, 6-1 and Taheri triumphed against Krishan 6-2, 6-4 at courts No. 4 and No. 3, respectively. UCI took four consecutive singles points from there. Amiryavari downed Perry DiGiulio 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 6 position. Zamora took care of Torres 6-4, 6-3 at the top. Fardanesh bested De Vries 6-4, 6-3 at the battle of No. 5. Nguyen defeated Bollinger in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to earn the victory for the Anteaters.
