Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith of Cal State Fullerton Swings Away for Big West Golfer of the Month

  • 27265Junior Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith had a dominant February for Cal State Fullerton to secure a first career Big West Golfer of the Month.  

  • Zermeno Smith skyrocketed from 315 to 197 in the NCAA national rankings with a string of impressive performances and a pair of top five finishes. 

  • The product of Covina, Calif., teed off the month tying for first on the leaderboard and triumphing in a playoff against teammate Davina Xanh at the UC Riverside Soboba Spirngs Classic Feb. 7-9.  

  • Zermeno Smith finished fifth out of 120 players in the Alice and John Wallace Women’s Golf Classic Feb. 15-17, defeating top-ranked competitors from elite programs. Zermino Smith carded rounds of 72, 70 and 69 to finished at four-under 209.  

  • The final round from Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif., was punctuated by four birdies and an eagle, playing the final two holes at three-under par. 

  • The junior capped off the month in a tie for 15th at the Bruin Wave Invitational, following up a challenging first round by going a combined one over in the final 36 holes.
