Headlined by Individual Champion Tegan Andrews, All-Big West Men's Golf Team and Awards Revealed

The Big West individual medalist Tegan Andrews of Cal State Fullerton headlines the 2024 All-Big West Men’s Golf Team and award winners, as voted on by the league’s head coaches and announced today.

The Titan senior becomes just the second Cal State Fullerton product to win Big West Golfer of the Year honors, joining 2014’s honoree Mark Anguiano. Andrews is averaging 69.7 strokes per round this season including carding an impressive 14-under 202 at La Quinta Country Club to claim the top spot at The Big West Championship. Andrews fired off a school-record tying 63 to go along with a 66 during the final round to earn honors and fire off the lowest Championship individual tally since 2006.

Andrews has recorded three individual victories in the 2023-24 season, with victories at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational in the fall, February’s Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and The Big West Championship with six top-10 finishes. The Agoura Hills, Calif., native is set to compete at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships at the Rancho Santa Fe regional at The Farms Golf Club from May 13-15.

Andrews is joined on the All-Big West First Team by a pair of Long Beach State student-athletes who will also be making a 2014 postseason appearance.

Playing from the top of the Beach lineup, senior Clay Seeber earns a second career All-Big West nod, also landing on the first team in 2020-21. In a return after a redshirt season, Seeber put together five top-10 finishes on the year, including runner up honors at the Ram Master’s Invitational in the fall and The Big West Championship. The product of Newport Beach, Calif., enters regional action averaging 71.0 strokes per round for the conference champions.

Charlie Forster, a junior from Winchester, England, is making a first career All-Big West Team after transferring to LBSU from Southeastern Louisiana and earning the Southland’s top honor in 2023. Forster averaged an under-par 71.1 strokes per round and has placed in the top 10 in four events this season.

CSUN also has a pair of first-team honorees in upperclassmen Felix Schrott and Antoine Sale. This marks the first time in program history that two Matadors have made the All-Big West First Team.

Schrott is making a third career appearance on the listings, up from the second team in the past two seasons. The senior from Bolzano, Italy, recorded three finishes in the top 5 including a victorious effort at the Orange County Collegiate Classic in February. Schrott averaged 71.4 strokes per round in a final season of collegiate golf.

Sale, a graduate transfer from Minnesota, closed the season with five top-10 finishes including a 10th place showing at The Big West Championship. Sale averaged 70.8 strokes per round this season, competing in 10 events for the Matadors.

Rounding out the six-person first team is Hawai’i senior Blaze Akana, the first Rainbow Warrior first-team selection for the program. Akana, a senior from Honolulu, finished with two top 10s on the year, taking fifth at the Lamkin Invitational in March after jumping up 27 spots in the final round with a 6-under 66.

After an impressive first year on course for the Aggies, Big West Freshman of the Year Leo Metzger became the fifth UC Davis first-year player to claim individual distinction. Metzger, a product of San Marcos HS in Santa Barbara, Calif., compiled a 72.2 scoring average this season, with a top 5 finish at the El Macero Classic. Metzger already etched his name in the UC Davis annals, recording a hole-in-one on the Par 4 15th hole during the second round of the Marquette Intercollegiate, Metzger’s first collegiate event.

Metzger is joined on the second team by four student-athletes representing four member institutions: Rei Harashima of UC Irvine, UC San Diego’s Davis McDowell, Baron Szeto of Cal Poly and Long Beach State’s Steen Zeman. Harashima, McDowell and Szeto are making repeat appearances on the All-Big West listings.

Harashima, a sophomore from Chula Vista, Calif., is up from an honorable mention selection last season after a third-place finish at the 2024 Big West Championship. Fellow All-Tournament Team selection, Szeto is making a third career appearance, and a second-straight on the Second Team. McDowell, a redshirt junior from San Rafael, Calif. Is also a three-time winner and 2023 first-team selection for UC San Diego.

In a second season guiding the Beach, head coach Rob Murray has claimed a second Coach of the Year honor as LBSU claimed back-to-back Big West Championship titles under the tutelage of Murray.  Long Beach State is set to open regional play from Chapel Hill, N.C., next Monday.
