Cal Poly's McCarthy Earns All-America First Team Honors at NCAA Track & Field Championships

AUSTIN, Tex. -- Cal Poly’s Aidan McCarthy placed seventh in the 800m in the NCAA Track & Field Championships, Friday at Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Enduring 95-degree heat, the two-time Big West 800m champion crossed the finish line in 1:46.78. With the seventh-place finish, the Mustang redshirt sophomore will earn All-America First Team honors.

Combined with Kash Powell of Long Beach State’s 16th place finish on Wednesday, The Big West has two All-Americans in the two-lap race this year. The last time the conference produced two All-Americans in the 800m was in 2012 when UC Irvine’s Charles Jock won the race and UC Santa Barbara’s Ryan Martin came in fourth. McCarthy is Cal Poly's first All-American on the men's side since 2007.
