NORMAN, Okla. – UC Davis senior Thomas Hutchison was named to the 2022 NCAA Division I PING All-America third team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Tuesday.
The All-America accolade is a career first for the two-time Big West Golfer of the Year and 2022 Big West individual medalist, and he is the first UC Davis golfer to land on the Division I PING All-America teams since Matt Hanson’s honorable mention nod in 2011.
Hutchison is one of four West Coast golfers to earn distinction in 2022, along with RJ Manke of Washington (first team), Stanford’s Michael Thorbjornsen (second team), and Mason Anderson of Arizona State (third team).
Hutchison boasted eight top-10s this season, including three individual tournament victories. The senior from San Jose, Calif., fired 18 rounds in the 60s, highlighted by a school-record 62 at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational this past fall. Along with the Big West individual title, Hutchison guided the Aggies to the team championship in wire-to-wire fashion.
He capped off his record-breaking UC Davis career at the NCAA Stockton Regional in May, averaging 69.69 strokes per round in 2021-22 and listed 20th in the Golfstat individual rankings published on June 2. The Aggies closed the season ranked 63rd nationally in the team listings.
Hutchison is the first Big West golfer to earn first-, second- or third-team All-America honors since 2010. He is the 37th GCAA All-American honoree since the conference was established in July 1969.
