• Redshirt senior Curtis Threlkeld, in his sixth and final year in the program, broke the Beach Opener meet record in the 800 meters by over a full second Saturday in Long Beach with his winning time of 1:52.20.
• Threlkeld topped Big West competitors from host Long Beach State, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara in second, third and fourth place, respectively.
• The Bakersfield native, who was making his season debut in the 800 on the Jack Rose Track, currently ranks second in program history in his signature event with his mark of 1:48.34 from 2019.
• Threlkeld was a two-time 800-meter champion in the Western Athletic Conference before CSU Bakersfield moved into The Big West ahead of the 2021 season.

• Sebastian Coleman produced a fourth-place finish behind only a USC trio to begin his junior season in Friday’s hammer at home during the Beach Opener, with his toss of 206’7” (62.96 meters) marking a new personal record and putting him in eighth on the program’s all-time list.
• Coleman finished fifth in Saturday’s shot put, with a heave of 51’8.5” (15.76m).
• Coleman turned in a second lifetime best Saturday in the discus, with his seventh-place throw of 179’5” (54.69m) on the first of six tries.

• LeNaya Griffin was a member of both quartets as Long Beach State’s relay teams pulled off a sweep inside their home venue at the Jack Rose Track during Saturday’s Beach Opener.
• Griffin ran the second leg of the Beach’s first-place 4x100 relay in a time of 46.73, ahead of Big West foes Hawai’i, UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego.
• The senior also led off the 4x400 relay that went 3:50.46 to finish more than a second and a half ahead of UC San Diego in second.
• Individually, Griffin ran a personal-record 24.21 to place third (second collegian) in the 200 meters, a time that narrowly missed out on the program’s top 10.

• Freshman Lilian Turban won the high jump Saturday in her outdoor collegiate debut at the Beach Opener in Long Beach, clearing 5’10” (1.78 meters) on her third and final attempt at that height.
• Turban, a native of Estonia, ranks No. 1 in the NCAA in the high jump after the opening week of the season, with Saturday’s mark.
• Based on Saturday’s performance, Turban has moved right into the No. 6 position in the program record book.
