Two CSUN and two UC Riverside individuals collected Big West Track and Field Athlete of the Week for performances that took place at the Triton Invitational and Highlander Twilight.
UC Riverside senior
Michael Kojin (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia HS) posted his first career Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honor with a strong performance at the Highlander Twilight. He ran the conference’s top time of 20.94 (+3.6w) in the 200-meters to finish third overall. That mark has him ranked No. 20 in the West Region. He also turned in a season-best in the 100-meter dash at 10.64, which ranks him eighth in the Big West. Kojin also participated on the winning Highlander 4x100 relay team, running a strong second leg that helped his side record a season-best 40.97.
CSUN freshman
De’Andreah Young (Miami, Fla./Miami Northwestern Senior HS) ran the fifth fastest 400-meter hurdles time in school history en route to her second Big West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award this season. Young finished the race in 59.28 seconds to place second in the event at the Triton Invitational. It marked the second time this season Young ran a sub-70 second time in the race. She recorded a 58.15 at the Stanford Invitational on March 30. Young also ran the 400-meters for the first time this season and turned in a fourth-place showing in La Jolla, clocking 55.53 to rank No. 8 on the Big West best marks list.
Earning his second Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week nod this season, CSUN junior
Erick Loomis (Hanford, Calif./Modesto JC) reset his own school record in the hammer throw to highlight action at the Triton Invitational. Loomis, who initially broke the mark on March 24 with a throw of 211-04 at the Northridge Invitational, surpassed that distance by more than 12 feet. His clearance of 223-11 represents the 13th best performance in Division I this season, and earned him a second-place finish at the meet. Loomis ranks No. 3 in the West Region with that measurement, trailing only Gleb Dudarev of Kansas (243-11) and Washington State’s Brock Eager (228-03).
