The votes are in for the first week of Spring Track and Field honors as UC Irvine claimed both track honors of the week.

UC Irvine swept the track accolades as Jacob Yowell (Men’s Track) and Amber Middleton (Women’s Track) took home Big West honors for the week.  Long Beach State’s Ben Woodruff (Men’s Field) and UC Riverside’s Ashley Gatewood (Women’s Field) are recognized for their performances last week competing in field events.

Senior Yowell, from Torrance, Calif. set a meet-record for the 200 meter, recording a time of 21.54 at the All-UC Meet.  Yowell also moved up to the No. 5 mark in the Anteater record books after a 14.16 win in the 110-meter hurdles last week.

Middleton, Murrieta, Calif. native won the 100-meter hurdles last week recording a time of 13.84 in the All-UC Meet, second-best time in UCI history.  She also ran the a leg on the 4x100 and helped the 4x400 relay to finish in third place.

The 49er junior, Woodruff set a personal record in the Beach Classic last week, winning the javelin competition with a Big West qualifying mark of 235-04.  This topped his previous all-time best by 14 feet, while just two feet shy of the school record.  The Redondo Beach native is the reigning Big West javelin champion.

In her senior season, Gatewood took first and second place marks this past week at the All-UC Invitational.  The Montclair native won the javelin competition posting a 152’ 5”, to beat her closest competitor by 16 feet.  She continued her top performance to get second place in the shot put (43’ 2.5”), missing the top spot by just over a foot.
