UC Irvine came away with the final weekly awards of the 2011 Big West track & field season as Sam Hyams claimed the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Maggie Newton-Neal won the Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor.

Hyams, a junior from Pleasanton, Calif., finished third in the 1500 at the Occidental Invitational with a time of 3:45.19. He was the top collegiate finisher and his effort is sixth-best in Anteater history.

Newton-Neal, a junior from Laguna Beach, Calif., finished fifth in the 800 at the Occidental Invitational after crossing the finish line in 2:09.50. She was the top collegiate finisher and moved ahead of former UCI great Buffy Rabbitt for seventh on the all-time program list.
