Four athletes who put forward recording performances are the focus of this week's Big West track & field honors as UC Irvine's Charles Jock (Men's Track), Long Beach State's Tyler Wallace (Men's Field), UC Santa Barbara's Amanda Moreno (Women's Track) and UC Riverside's Brittani Daniels (Women's Field) all took home awards.
Jock, a junior from San Diego, Calif., won the Invitational Elite 800-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays in a school-record time of 1:45.19, a mark he established a year ago. Jock’s time is tops in the NCAA, #1 in the USA and #4 in the world this season.
Wallace, a junior from Temecula, Calif., won the pole vault at the Beach Invitational with a mark of 17-03.75. His effort was a personal best by 14 inches, the best mark in the Big West and #15 on the national list.
Moreno, a senior from Escalon, Calif., finished sixth in the Olympic Elite division of the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:58.02. Her time set a Big West Conference record for the event, smashing the previous time set by former teammate Danielle Domenichelli by over three seconds.
Daniels, a senior from San Bernardino, Calif., recorded marks of 190-09 (58.12m) in the hammer and 158-07 (48.35m) in the discus at the Mt. SAC Relays. Her effort in the hammer established a new Highlander program record that was set in 2004, while her showing in the discus is the top effort in the Big West this season.
