Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, UC Davis and UC Riverside all received mention in this week's track & field weekly awards as one athlete from each school received an award.
On the men's side, UCR's Chad Hall (Men's Track) and LBSU's Colin Dunbar (Men's Field) claimed awards, while the women's honors went to UCD's Caitlin Fitzgerald (Women's Track) and CSUN's Sherrina Lofton (Women's Field).
Hall, a junior from Big Bear, Calif., finished 11th in the 1500 "Premier" race at the Sun Angel Classic, running a 3:46.26 effort against some of the nation's top collegians and professionals. It's the fastest 1500 time in the Big West so far this season.
Dunbar, a senior from Santa Barbara, Calif., finished first in the hammer at the Big West Challenge with a toss of 218-08. His effort led the club to its fourth-straight Big West Challenge title and was a personal-best. Dunbar also moved up to second on the all-time LBSU list in the event, trailing only former Olympian Bill Green.
Fitzgerald, a senior from Palmdale, Calif., finished second in the steeplechase with a time of 10:31.72 at Mondo Mid-Major Challenge at Sacramento State. Her time is a personal record and tied for the top effort in the Big West.
Lofton, a senior from Fairfield, Calif., finished sixth in the heptathlon at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with a season-best 5,366 points. Lofton, who now has the eighth-best point total in the nation, posted season-bests in the 100 hurdles (14.18), 200 meters (24.20) and high jump (5-5.75) at the prestigious multi-event meet in Austin, Texas.
