There were three repeat winners in this week's edition of the Big West weekly track & field awards, as Charles Jock of UC Irvine (Men's Track), Amanda Moreno of UC Santa Barbara (Women's Track) and Long Beach State's Tara Ross (Women's Field) earned another 2011 honor. The first time winner to 2011 was Cesar Puga of Long Beach State as he claimed the Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Jock, a junior from San Diego, Calif., claimed the Men's Track honor for the second consecutive week. He won the 800 meters (1:47.18) at the Cal/Nevada Championships for the third straight year. Jock also anchored UCI’s 4x400 relay that finished second with a time of 3:14.87. His 800 time was a Cal/Nevada Championships meet record, breaking his previous record of 1:47.46) from last year. Jock was also named Athlete of the Meet for the second consecutive year.
Moreno, a senior from Escalon, Calif., took home her second Women's Track award of 2011. She won the 5k run at the Stanford Invitational in 16:16:53, two seconds faster than the runner-up and the top time in the Big West by 40 seconds.
Ross, a senior from Mission Viejo, Calif., took home her third Women's Field award in four weeks. She won the javelin at the Cal/Nevada Championships last weekend, posting a mark of 163-0. Ross' effort is a season-best, tops in the Big West and third in the West Region.
Puga, a senior from Salinas, Calif., won the discus at the Cal/Nevada Championships for the second consecutive year with a toss of 179-07, leading LBSU to the men's team title. Puga also recorded a fifth place effort in the shot put with a throw of 54-4.25.
