The first day of the 2010 Big West Multi Championships has come and gone with Cal State Northridge's Robert Robinson and UC Santa Barbara's Barbara Nwaba lead the decathlon and heptathlon, respectively. The competitions are the first leg of the 2010 Big West Track & Field Championships, which are being held at Matador Track on the campus of Cal State Northridge.
Robinson has 4,070 points after finishing first in the 100 (10.83 - 899 pts.), first in the long jump (7.45m - 922 pts.), eighth in the shot put (11.42m - 571 pts.), third in the high jump (1.99m - 794 pts.) and first in the 400 (48.53 - 884 pts.). Nicholas Armstrong of Long Beach State was second with 3,740 points, while UC Santa Barbara's Mike Powers finished day one in third with 3,728 points.
Nwaba's is in the top position with 3,420 points, the result of a second place finish in the 100 hurdles (14.39 - 924 pts.), first in the high jump (1.76m - 928 pts.), first in the shot put (12.29m - 680 pts.) and third in the 200 (24.99 - 888 pts.). Nwaba is followed in the standings by Desirae Gonder of Cal State Northridge with 3,329 points and Anikia Jackson of UC Davis with 2,986 points.
The final day of the multi championships will be tomorrow as the decathlon starts at 11 am and the heptathlon beginning at 1 pm. The decathlon events are the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meters, while the heptathlon will have the long jump, javelin and 800 meters.
