Athletes from four different programs accounted for the Big West Track & Field honors, including one athlete who took home her third weekly mention of the 2010 outdoor season.
The track awards went to Alex Wilright of UC Davis, who won the Men's Athlete of the Week, and Ciara Short of Cal State Fullerton, who nabbed her third Women's Athlete of the Week accolade.
Wilright, a junior from Elk Grove, Calif., finished third in the 400 hurdles college/open section at the Sun Angel Classic in 50.47. He also ran the anchor in the 4x400 relay which finished eighth. Wilright's mark in the hurdles is currently ranked ninth in the NCAA.
Short, a junior from San Diego, Calif., was a four-time winner at the Big West Challenge. Individually, she finished tops in the 200 (23.98) and 400 (53.45), while also taking part in a couple of winning relay contingents in the 4x100 (45.85) and 4x400 (3:48.65).
The field honors were handed out to Long Beach State's Rajan Bains and UC Riverside's Lauren Reid, the Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Women's Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.
Bains, a junior from Fresno, Calif., finished second in each of his four events at the Big West Challenge. He recorded an effort of 181-0 in the hammer, 162-0 in the discus, 52-4 in the shot put and 162-4 in the javelin. Each one of Bains’ efforts were personal highs.
Reid, a senior from Oxnard, Calif., came away with a win in the triple jump at the Sun Angel Classic after posting a mark of 42-3.50 in the college/open section. She also came away with an effort of 19-4.75 in the long jump in the premiere section, finishing up in seventh place.
