After day one of the Big West Track & Field Multi-Championships, Cal State Northridge's Robert Robinson and UC Santa Barbara's Barbara Nwaba are in the lead in the decathlon and heptathlon, respectively. The multi-events are being held at Anteater Stadium on the campus of UC Irvine in Irvine, Calif.
Robinson recorded 901 points in the 100, 828 in the long jump, 615 in the shot put, 731 in the high jump and 834 in the 400 meter for his decathlon best 3,909 tallies. Corbin Duer of Cal Poly was second with 3,751 points, while Lance Gonzales of Cal State Northridge ranks third with 3,747 points.
In the heptathlon, Nwaba finished the first day in the top position thanks to 910 points in the 100 hurdles, 879 in the high jump, 562 in the shot put and 899 in the 200 for 3,250 points. She outlasted Cal State Northridge's Sherrina Lofton who picked up 3,228 points after day one, with Taylor O'Connor of Long Beach State checking in third place with 2,928 tallies.
Saturday marks the final day of competition as the decathlon events start at 11 am, while the heptathlon kicks off at 1 pm.
