This week's edition of the Big West track & field award winners saw UC Riverside claim two of the four awards, while an athlete from both UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara also came away with honor.

The Highlanders saw Brenda Martinez claim the Women's Track Athlete of the Week award, while Lauren Reid came away with the Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor.

Martinez, a junior from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., ran in section I of the 1500-meter run at the Payton Jordan Invitational, finishing the race in 4:13.58. She broke her own UCR and Big West Conference records in the event, finished third among collegians in the international level race and ranks fourth in the NCAA in the 1500.

Reid, a junior from Oxnard, Calif., recorded personal best efforts of 5.99 meters in the long jump and 12.69 meters in the triple jump at the Steve Scott Invitational. Her effort in the long jump placed her second in the event, while in the triple jump, Reid was the second collegian behind teammate Allison Wilder. Her triple jump mark was also an NCAA Regional qualifier and ranks 4th in the West.

UC Irvine's Charles Jock claimed his second Big West weekly accolade of the season as he was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week. Jock, a freshman from San Diego, Calif., won the 800 meters with a time of 1:48.73 at the Steve Scott Invitational.  He also anchored the winning 4x400 relay that recorded a season-best time of 3:13.36. Jock's 800 time is No. 3 on the UCI all-time list as he closes in on the school record of 1:47.6 set by Steve Scott in 1978.  This was the second time this season that Jock has run the fastest 800 meters by a UCI runner in 21 years and his time ranks 10th in the NCAA.

UC Santa Barbara's Scott Anderson claimed the final honor of the week as he netted the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. Anderson, a senior from San Luis Obispo, Calif., recorded a pair of two first place finishes at the UCSB Dual meet. He won the shot with an effort of 17.89 meters and the discus with an effort of 49.47 meters. Anderson broke his own school record in the shot put and improved upon his regional qualifying mark.
