For the fourth time this season, Cal State Northridge took home multiple weekly honors as the Matadors claimed the Men's Track Athlete of the Week as well as the Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Thomas Ross (Converse, Texas) claimed the track award for CSUN after running a 13.83 in the 110-meter hurdles at the Steve Scott Invitational. The senior’s time is a season-best, an NCAA Regional qualifier and just .05 off his lifetime-best mark. Reindell Cole (Las Vegas, Nev.) completed the CSUN sweep of the men’s awards with his Field Athlete of the Week nod. The freshman recorded an incredible mark of 26-9.75 in the long jump at the Steve Scott Invitational. His effort is the best long jump in the nation this season.
On the women's side of the awards ledger, Bethany Nickless (Huntington Beach, Calif.) of UC Santa Barbara and Sharon Day (Costa Mesa, Calif.) of Cal Poly were honored as the Track Athlete of the Week and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.
Nickless ran a 10:32.19 in the steeplechase at the Payton Jordan Invite in Palo Alto last weekend. Her time improved her previous NCAA Regional qualifying time in the event.
Day was stellar in the high jump and long jump at the Cal Poly-UC Santa Barbara dual meet, recording a first place and second place finish, respectively. In the high jump, the senior’s leap of 6-0.75 won the event, while her second place showing in the long jump came after an effort of 19-3.50.
