UC Davis claimed two of the weekly Big West track & field awards this week, the first time that the Aggies have claimed multiple awards in the same week. Five awards were handed out this week as UCD and Cal State Northridge tied for the women's track accolades.
On the track side of the awards,
Bradley Ike of Cal State Northridge claimed the men's honor while the women's award was shared by
Sherrina Lofton of Cal State Northridge and
Sirena Williams of UC Davis. It marks the second time in three weeks that the pair has split the honor.
Ike (Pomona, Calif.) ran a pair of lifetime bests at the Tommy "Tiny" Lister Classic in Los Angeles. He ran a 10.57 in the 100 and a 21.29 in the 200, with the 200 time being an NCAA Regional qualifier.
Lofton (Fairfield, Calif.) ran a 23.64 at the Lister Classic, completing the race in third place with a lifetime-best effort, while Williams (Fresno, Calif.) ran 13.80 in the 100 hurdles and 12.66 in the 100-meter dash in UCD's Causeway Classic Dual against Sacramento State. The 100 hurdles time is the fastest-ever for at UC Davis and was first in the meet.
The field awards saw
Jah Bennett of UC Davis and
Katelyn Ciarelli of Long Beach State claim the men's and women's accolades, respectively. Bennett (San Jose, Calif.) finished first in the high jump at the Causeway Classic Dual with a mark of 2.10 meters. The NCAA Regional qualifying effort was a season-best mark for Bennett and the top result in the event for the Aggies this season.
Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.) turned in an effort of 171-05 in the discus at the UCSD Triton Invitational, good for ninth overall but the top collegiate mark in the event. The toss was a lifetime best for Ciarelli by over two feet, third on the 49er all-time discus list and the top performance in the Big West.
