Cal State Northridge was selected as the site for the 2008 NCAA West Regional Championships it was announced. This marks the first time since 2004 that CSUN has been awarded the priviledge of being a host site for an NCAA track & field regional.
Matador Track is no stranger to hosting championship track & field events. The facility has hosted three Big West championships, including the last two, and one Big Sky Championship to go along with the NCAA West Regional in 2004.
The championships will be held May 30-31, two weeks after the facility hosts the Big West Championships for the third consecutive year. Student-athletes and teams from the western United States will vie for spots in the NCAA Championships that will take place June 11-14 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. The three top finishers in each event at the NCAA Regional qualify for the NCAA Championships. At-large berths will be determined at a later date once qualifying standards have been set.
Two of thethree other regional sites have been selected as the University of Arkansas will host the Mid-East Regional while the University of Nebraska hosts the Midwest Regional.
