LBSU Claims Two All-America Honors on Final Day of NCAA Championships

The final day of competition at the 2007 NCAA Championships ended with Long Beach State claiming an All-America honor on both the men's and women's side.

LBSU's Brent Gray claimed the national accolade with a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 20.96 seconds. The 49ers' Kim Heinz garnered All-America honors in the javelin after finishing the finals in seventh place with a mark of 169-04 (51.61 meters). Both athletes broke their own school records during the NCAA Championships.

In the men's team standings, Cal State Northridge was the highest scoring Big West squad with 10 points, good for a tie for 28th overall. Cal Poly was 40th overall with six points, while Long Beach State's five points put it in a tie for 45th. UC Santa Barbara wrapped up the scoring on the men's side with two tallies, putting the Gauchos in a tie for 66th place.

The women's standings had Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara as the highest scoring Big West squads as the Mustangs and Gauchos finished in a tie for 45th with five points. Long Beach State was the only other conference team to register tallies on the scoreboard as the 49ers finished with two points, tying for 64th place.

Florida State won its second straight national title on the men's side after amassing 54 points, six points ahead of second place LSU. On the women's side, Arizona State won its first-ever outdoor title after cruising to an 11-point win over the second place Tigers.

In all, the Big West Conference claimed eight All-Americans and one national champion at the 2007 national championships.
