UC Irvine's Dayne Comrie and Long Beach State's John Temidara received Big West Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors, while the female track & field athlete of the week awards were handed out to Cal State Northridge's Deanna Goodwin and UCI's Lauren Collins.
Anteater Dayne Comrie earned his second track athlete of the week honor this season after his performance in the 200 and 400 meters at the Northridge Invitational. Comrie ran the second fastest time of the day in the 400 meters at 47.54, posting the eighth-best mark in UCI history and was just .28 off the regional-qualifying mark. In the 200 meters he placed third with a time of 21.75.
LBSU's John Temidara claimed the first place prize in both the triple jump and high jump at the Long Beach Classic to earn Big West’s weekly honor for male field athlete. His mark of 51-7 in the triple jump was a regional-qualifying mark and the ninth-best distance in Long Beach history. He currently holds the no. 1 mark in the nation, according to the descending order list. His high jump mark of 6-10.75 was also a regional qualifying height and ranks him third in the country.
On the women's side, Deanna Goodwin earned Cal State Northridge's first weekly honor of the year after being named women's track athlete of the week. The San Francisco, Calif., native ran the 100 meters in a time of 11.69 to grab the top spot. Running on home turf at the Northridge Invitational, she also finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 24.42.
Also competing at the Northridge Invitational, UCI's Lauren Collins won the high jump with a regional-qualifying mark of 5-8.75 to earn Big West's female field athlete of the week. The true freshman's height was the second-best in Anteater history.
