Utah State’s McNeal, Cal Poly’s Cisco, UC Irvine’s Ramirez Named Track Athletes Of The Week
Utah State junior Rod McNeal (Lakeland, FL) earned the Aggies’ first Big West Track Athlete of the Week honor this week after an impressive showing at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Invitational hosted by UCLA. The 5-8 sprinter, who also plays wide receiver for the Utah State football team, finished third in the 100m race with a time of 10.50. McNeal is the Big West’s leader in the 100m event.
On the women’s side, the Big West bestowed Co-Athlete of the Week honors on Cal Poly senior Wilimena Cisco (Sacramento, CA) and senior Kim Ramirez (Carson, CA) of UC Irvine. Cisco earns her first honors of the season after posting a time of 13.84 in the 100m hurdles at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Invitational to finish in third place. Cisco is the current Big West leader in the 100m hurdles and is already a regional qualifier in the event.
Ramirez garners her first weekly award after an impressive outing at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. She ran the seventh-fastest time in UC Irvine history in the 1500m event with a time of 4:26.15 to finish second in the race. With that time, Ramirez earns an automatic qualifying berth into the regional championships.
Utah State’s Lloyd, Cal Poly’s Stafford Earn Field Athlete Of The Week Honors
Utah State freshman Zack Lloyd (Ely, NV) and Cal Poly senior Cortney Stafford (Anaheim, CA) earned Big West Field Athlete of the Week honors after posting the conference’s top performances of the week.
Lloyd garners his second weekly award of the season after a strong showing at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Invitational at UCLA. Lloyd tossed a 60-04 in the shot put to finish fourth in the event. Lloyd is the Big West leader in the shot put.
Stafford becomes the first Mustang to earn Field Athlete of the Week honors after a career performance at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Invitational. Stafford posted a 43-08.50 in the triple jump event, the second-best mark in the nation this season and a Cal Poly school record. With the mark, Stafford, who was also an NCAA indoor All-American, earns a regional qualifying spot in the triple jump event.
