Cal Poly junior Ryan Moorcroft (San Diego, Calif.) was named Big West Male Track Athlete of the Week. The Mustang distance runner set the fastest time in the 1,500 meter race at the UC Santa Barbara dual meet. Moorcraft's time of 3:45.41 is two seconds faster than the next Big West athlete. He also holds the conference's top time in the 5,000 meter event with a 14:01.88 mark. UC Riverside junior Angela Lindsey (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was named Big West Female Track Athlete of the Week. The Highlander sprinter established a new school record with a 24.32 time in the 200 meter race at the Triton Invitational. Lindsey also set a career high in the 100 meter race with a 12.09 mark. Her time in the 200 meter race is third fastest in the Big West thus far while her 100 meter time ranks seventh.
UC Santa Barbara sophomore Amy Haapanen (Manteca, Calif.) was named Big West Female Field Athlete of the Week. The Gaucho field athlete set a new Big West record with a 196-02.25 mark in the hammer throw event. Her mark in the hammer was also a new UCSB record as was her 169-01.75 distance in the discus throw. Haapanen currently ranks No. 1 in the conference in the hammer throw and shot put and is No. 2 in the discus throw. Long Beach State senior Doug Lefler (Frenchtown, Mont.) was named Big West Male Field Athlete of the Week after finishing second in the javelin throw at the Drake Relays (first among collegiate athletes). Lefler's distance of 213-00 currently ranks No. 1 among Big West athletes.
