UC Santa Barbara junior Jeff Gardina (Santa Rosa, Calif.) was named Big West Male Track Athlete of the Week. The Gaucho distance runner placed fifth in the 5,000-meter race at the Ben Brown Invitational. Hist time of 14:24.80 was a personal best and is the fastest among Big West athletes this season. UC Santa Barbara sophomore Kylie McCuen (Brea, Calif.) was named Big West Female Track Athlete of the Week. The Gaucho sprinter finished third in the 200-meter and first in the 100-meter heats. Her time of 24.57w in the 200-meter is a career best and fastest in the conference thus far. Her time in the 100-meter (12.27) was also a career best.

UC Santa Barbara sophomore Amy Haapanen (Manteca, Calif.) was named Big West Female Field Athlete of the Week for the second straight week. The Gauchos athlete set Big West-leading marks in the hammer throw (185-7), discus throw (165-7) and shot put (50-10.75) at the Ben Brown Invitational. The distances in the hammer and discus set new UCSB records. All three marks qualified her for the NCAA Regional. UC Santa Barbara junior Ryan Lockner (San Ramon, Calif.) was named Big West Male Field Athlete of the Week after a 53-0.25 distance in the shot put at the Ben Brown Invitational. His mark was a career best and eighth longest in Gaucho history.
